What are you looking forward to reading in April? There are so many great books coming out this month including some from independent publishers like Devil of the Deep and Burn the Sea from @bindery_books and The Mystery of the Bitten Peach from @neonhemlock that you can support by ordering for yourself, a friend, or requesting through your local library 📚 I’m also super excited for The Genie Game by @jordanifueko (which I have an ARC of but I’ve been waiting for the audiobook that she narrates herself) and A Fishboy Named… Sashimi by @dsantat which I went to a virtual @macmillanusa event for and it sounds absolutely hilarious 😁 The Subtle Art of Folding Space by @j0hnchu is also high on my anticipated reads. I’ve gone to a couple of his author readings at ICFA and he’s so good at blending in the speculative with the mundane of day to day life in ways that are super entertaining And shoutout to @thereadingblackgirls whose recent list made me realize I’d missed the release date of To Steal a Throne by @queryqueen339 👑 #booklist #newreleasetuesday #newbooks #diversebooks
How has your Q1 reading been? I haven’t had it in me to make monthly reading wrap ups, especially with how different this reading year has been for me compared to the past. Usually, at this point I’ve read over 20 books, but this year I’ve got less than half of that. I’ve spent so much time doomscrolling, or napping after work, or just staring off and dissociating But I’ve also spent so much time with the people I love and who love me back. I’ve gotten to work with immigrant communities (specifically my local Haitian community) through my day job in a way that’s felt especially meaningful. I have been in community irl in ways I hadn’t had the time or resources to do before and for that, I’m thankful I’m not going to make big promises about posting every day or even every week, but I can promise that I’ll continue to post about things that matter. I’ll continue uplifting books by marginalized authors, I’ll continue supporting indie bookstores, and I’ll continue connecting with this virtual community in the ways and times that I’m able to 🫶🏾🫰🏾 #bookstagram #q1 #readingwrapup #booknerd #reader
What are you looking forward to reading in March? I was up till 3 am making this list because March truly snuck up on me 🫠 Let me know you’re anticipated March releases and if you’re joining my book club this month where we not only read books by BIPOC, but specifically books by immigrants 📖 #newreleasetuesday #readingrecs #bookstagram #diversebooks
Join the Children of Diaspora Book Club on @bindery_books as we read The Year I Flew Away by Marie Arnold 📖 #bookstagram #bookclub #middlegrademarch #magicalrealism
What was your highlight of Black History Month? I haven’t been as active with lists this year because there were a lot of unexpected things happening in my life. I had to fly to New Jersey for a funeral and thankfully was able to get out before the snow storm. Work has been physically exhausting and I’ve been taking long naps after it most days. My Spanish classes were starting to get overwhelming so after this week, I’ll be taking a break until the summer. Also *waves hands* the general state of the world and life in the U. S. in particular has been draining all my creativity 🫠 But nevertheless, we persevere I love books by Black authors and making this list brought me so much Black joy 🥰 #blackhistorymonth #readblackbooks #blackbookstagrammer #booklist #readingrecs
