Our August book club pick is Behind You is the Sea by Susan Muaddi Darraj. I know how busy August can be due to back-to-school season so this short story collection should be a lot easier to get through by the end of the month. Behind You is the Sea is by a Palestinian-American author and I'm also planning to add a fundraiser for the Palestinian Children’s Relief Fund to my next IG post about Behind You is the Sea, so be on the lookout for that.

And here's the reading schedule if you'd like to break down the reading by week. This book is divided by story rather than chapter so I've written out each story that you'd be reading if you're following the week schedule. It divides out to three short stories for each of the first two weeks then the stories get a little longer toward the end.

Week 1: A Child of Air, Ride Along, Mr. Ammar Gets Drunk at the Wedding (pg. 1 - 62)

Week 2: The Hastag, Behind You is the Sea, Gyroscopes (pg. 63 - 134)

Week 3: Cleaning Lentils, Worry Beads (pg. 135 - 202)

Week 4: Escorting the Body (pg. 203 - end)

I'd also love to know what day would work best for you for book club discussion. These discussions are on Discord and there is both a voice channel and text channel for discussion. These discussions would all be in the evening/afternoon whether they fall on a week day or weekend.
